Lou and Bill Tudor’s custom home on Lake Charlevoix in northern Michigan may look like a traditional log home on the outside, but inside there are plenty of modern touches.
The 4,800-square-foot house features five bedrooms and five-and-a-half baths, a full bar, recreation room, movie theater, and two three-car garages. It has geothermal heating and cooling. It’s also ADA compliant and features a commercial elevator for the couple’s son with special needs can enjoy coming to stay.
Then there are the walls. While the home looks like it’s a full log home built from Northern White Cedar, it’s actually crafted from log siding. Because the Tudors split their time between the lakeside and Palm City, Florida, they wanted to achieve the charm of a log home without the upkeep.
Before building, Lou and Bill traversed four states, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, and, finally, Michigan, to find the perfect lakeside location. They decided on Lake Charlevoix after falling for its clear waters, idyllic views and convenient location. It also happened to be home to Town + Cedar Log Homes, which the Tudors chose because the company was attentive to their ideas and eager to work them into the design of their modern log home.
In fact, the Tudors loved their experience with Town + Country so much, they bought the company after building was complete! Their vision: Expand Town + Country to help more homeowners build homes they love as much as the Tudors love their own.
